Describe your day…

Magical. I barely experienced any of the morning nerves people talk about, I was so excited to see Matt, and to see all my hard work come together lol! It really was the most special day, seeing so many special friends and family surrounding us and supporting us. Matt and I are so close, but it was something really special experiencing a commitment ceremony like that, it drew us even closer and the whole day was like a beautiful, loved up blur. It was intimate and fun and to be in such a stunningly beautiful place was absolutely everything. I wouldn’t change a thing.

What was the feel and style of your wedding?

I was aiming for a bohemian vibe. Hopefully it came out that way. I love everything outdoors, and nature, green fields and beautiful flowers. Being by the river and having the fire pit was magical, the whole feel of the day was relaxed and intimate. I think a lot of our friends had never been to a wedding like it and just loved it. I know I did.

Favourite moment?

Can’t beat the ceremony, it was my favourite moment by far. I wish I could re-live it. Saying our vows was so special, even though I struggled to get mine out without balling my eyes out! Everything was perfect, the emotion, the stunning scenery and my husband, who surprised me at how good his vows were! It was also a really proud moment to be walked down the aisle by my mum and my dad.

Why Riverwood?

Riverwood was just perfect for us. I had dreamed of an outdoor wedding, in nature. We had a few places  I thought I wanted to be married and then as soon as we walked into Riverwood we both just looked at each other and said I think this is it!
It was stunning and full of beautiful green trees and grass and pretty flowers, and right on a river! The fire pit and relaxed vibes were so cool, and we loved the idea of creating our wedding around all the things we love, something unique. We were so lucky to find it!

Hints and Tips for other couples?

Just think about what you and your partner want for your day and what things mean a lot to you, in regards to your style and the vibe you want. Everything about our day was what we loved, down to the colourful bridesmaids’ dresses, which were so000 me.

Also just try not to stress, Nothing could have ruined that day for me.

Lindsay xx

Barefoot at Broken Head

At the end of a single stretch of sand, your guests look to the north to the most easterly point of Australia – the Byron Bay Lighthouse. There is salt in the air, eucalypts crowded thick over the hills, and waves rolling in from the point.

After the ceremony, the guests walk a minute over the sand dunes through a simple back gate to reveal the minimal Balinese-inspired masterpiece that is Barefoot at Broken Head.

The huge central living pavilion opens up through accordion doors to the tropical garden and huge decks in which are set four other buildings, where the families and couples that are staying can have perfect privacy when they desire, and huge common areas when they would like to commune.

There are five luxury bedrooms and a separate kitchen and dining area overlooking the pools where you can watch the kids frolic in the 30cm deep reflection pool or dive deep into the 20m lap pool, both set in golden sandstone.

In the days before and after your reception have relatives or friends to stay, ride the bikes along the beach at low tide, or drive 10 minutes into town to enjoy Byron’s restaurants. With the sound of the sea from your bed and a world-class point break a minute from your room – this is the ultimate Australian beach house.

Co-ordinators love weddings at Barefoot at Broken Head because it’s all here – no need to organise a professional kitchen, bathrooms, electricity, decorations, cool room, marquees, public liability insurance, gate attendant, rubbish removal or indoor/outdoor ceremony options. All this is included in the reception fee.

Fig Tree Restaurant

From your ceremony, under a huge fig tree with the ocean, lighthouse, and Julian rocks as a backdrop, through to cocktails and canapés by the pool or lawn games and a gentle walk through the garden – your guests will feel instantly wowed, relaxed and indulged.

Established in 1981 Fig Tree is Byron Bay’s most awarded restaurant, this year again winning “Best Restaurant North coast Region” and again being a national finalist in “Best BYO Restaurant.”

Dinner can be a relaxed affair, by the pool or on the lawn under the stars ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ or a more intimate dining experience in the restaurant. With a large open planned interior, the restaurant leads itself to a night of family, friends, great food and fun.

Che, Head Chef and Owner, keeps it simple with produce sourced predominantly from the restaurant’s own gardens, along with the fields, paddocks, and oceans that surround Byron Bay. In the restaurant, he combines this premium produce with his creativity and experience, gained from years spent travelling and cooking around the world.

For your wedding menu, Che will invite you to the restaurant to enjoy a six-course tasting, before sitting down with you to design a menu that reflects what is fresh, local, in season and is “the food you want to eat!!”

Fig Tree offers two houses for accommodation – The Dairy and Sunrise, both on either side of the restaurant, for you, your family or friends to get ready in or retire to.
