How To Find Your Perfect Byron Bay Wedding VenueDec 26

The Orchard Estate - Byron Bay Wedding Venue - Honeywed

Whether you have been visualising your Byron Bay wedding as long as you can remember or are currently lost in a sea of inspiration as you traverse your options (ahem, thanks Pinterest!), there’s no doubt about it… finding the perfect venue can be one of the most challenging parts of the entire wedding planning process.

And for good reason! Once you’ve locked away this all-important detail, a lot of the other decisions become a whole lot easier. This is because your chosen venue (more often than not) sets the stage, tone and style for the whole shebang, making stylingfloral, and even guest numbers and wedding dress decisions a WHOLE lot easier.

So to help you on this all-important journey, we asked the planning legends at Byron Bay Weddings for their top eight points to consider as you begin your Byron Bay wedding venue hunt.

1. Listen to Your Heart

Yes, it might sound a little cheesy, but you met and decided to wed based on a feeling… so it only makes sense to trust your heart and celebrate your wedding at a place that gives you the same good feels. Our advice is to take your time viewing a range of different properties until you find a venue which just ‘feels right’ for you both. Because, when you know, you know right?!

2. Your Wedding Style

Try and match what you have in mind in terms of styling and decorating with a venue that will complement and accentuate the look and feel you are after. Trust us when we say it is a LOT easier, and MUCH cheaper to find a venue which suits your desired style as opposed to trying to change a space into something which it’s not.

3. Need Onsite Accommodation?

Not every property has accommodation as an option, but there likely be somewhere beautiful and convenient to stay nearby so don’t sweat this detail. Instead, just focus your efforts on finding the perfect venue as there will always be plenty of accommodation options. And to save additional stress and time, point your guests in the right direction and allow them to find their own suitable digs.

4. Check What’s Included in the Price

Never assume everything will be included in the venue hire fee. Each venue has set their pricing based on different factors so ensure to ask plenty of questions from the get-go to make sure you are happy with the inclusions and have factored in any additional costs. For example; are bathrooms, kitchens, cool rooms or catering equipment onsite or will you need to hire these in?

5. Your Wedding Date

Are you flexible in regards to which day of the week you tie the knot? If you are, it can pay off big time with the potential to save some serious moolah if you score a mid-week discount or a special Winter rate (which a lot of venues offer – it pays to ask!). Another top tip? Look at the moon charts before deciding on a date as an epic full moon truly makes for some killer photos!  And while it is definitely important to take a look at the usual weather patterns for the time of year you’re considering, I wouldn’t put too much weight on this as the weather can be so unpredictable – and attachment to the weather is a surefire way to add a level stress and anxiety you JUST. DON’T. NEED. Also, whilst long weekends and public holidays might initially seem like a great option for that extended lovefest, it’s worth taking into consideration the fact that guests may have to book a 3 or 5-night minimum stay during these peak times.

6. Wet Weather Contingency Plan

It’s always nice to think that your day will be nothing but sunshine and blue skies, but save yourself stress down the track in case it isn’t (see above!). Choose a venue which has a wet weather back up plan you are comfortable with. And never forget that your wedding day is about creating a future with your numero uno and NOT about rain or shine. And if it does rain? See it as a photo opportunity – rain makes for THE most romantic shots and adds a luminosity to your photography which is impossible to replicate with full sun. So, when it comes to the weather… hope for the best, plan for the worst and then just… let. it. GO!

7. Put Together a Rough Guest List

To make sure the venues you are considering will accommodate your family and friends, we suggest beginning with four lists;
1) the essential
2) the ideal
3) the epic party; and
4) the list you would invite to your 10th year wedding anniversary!

8. Know Your Budget

This is an important one, so be realistic. There are many stunning spots out there, but if you honestly don’t have the budget to blow on a high-end venue, let it go and focus on ways to work your style and theme into the venues you can afford. Save your energy and photo-stalking time for other aspects of your wedding.

Established in 1981 Fig Tree is Byron Bay’s most awarded restaurant, this year again winning “Best Restaurant North coast Region” and again being a national finalist in “Best BYO Restaurant.”

Che, Head Chef and Owner, keeps it simple with produce sourced predominantly from the restaurant’s own gardens, along with the fields, paddocks, and oceans that surround Byron Bay. In the restaurant, he combines this premium produce with his creativity and experience, gained from years spent travelling and cooking around the world.

For your wedding menu, Che will invite you to the restaurant to enjoy a six-course tasting, before sitting down with you to design a menu that reflects what is fresh, local, in season and is “the food you want to eat!!”
